Revised Gross Point McDonald's Proposal Surfaces

The agenda of the October 16, 2012 Evanston Zoning Board of Appeals meeting indicates that Maurice King, as lessee, is applying for a special use for a Type 2 (fast food) Restaurant, i.e., a McDonalds, at 2500 Gross Point Road, but that the matter will not be discussed at this meeting.

City of Evanston $248M draft 2013 budget now out

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz on Friday, October 12, 2012 released the City of Evanston's proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2013, totaling $248,034,384. The General Fund budget, which typically gets the most attention but is only about 1/3 of all City expenditures, is projected to have a deficit of nearly a million dollars.

Shopping on Community Day 10/13 Helps Good Causes

The Central Street Business Associations’s 2012 Fall Community Day on Central Street is this Saturday, October 13th, 10am-5pm at most participating businesses. Proceeds help numerous nonprofits, from Foundation 65 to the Mitchell Museum to the Evanston Public Library Friends (see list on flyer).
 

Willard Fall Fest Sat. 10/13

The third Willard Elementary School Fall Festival will take place -- rain or shine, say organizers --  this Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the school, 2700 Hurd Ave., Evanston. Promised attractions include a “human bowling” game with Zorb bubble balls, sports, inflatable "bounce houses," a cakewalk, karaoke, crafts, a ropes course, food, and prizes. The event is open to the public.

State Legislative Candidate Forum Thurs. Oct. 18

On Thursday evening, October 18, 2012, at 7 PM at Haven Middle School, Evanston, a Central Street Neighbors Association public forum features candidates vying to represent north Evanston and surrounding areas in the Illinois General Assembly. The moderated forum, with specific issue questions, will offer opportunity for the community to discern differences between candidates. All Democratic and Republican candidates for the 17th and 18th Illinois House district, as well as the 9th Illinois Senate District, have been invited, and five have committed to attend.

Pumpkin Sale on Central Street to Benefit Schoolkids

The good work of the Evanston School Children’s Clothing Association (ESCCA) will benefit this Saturday, Oct. 13, from what's become a neighborhood tradition, the annual pumpkin sale sponsored by Coldwell Banker held in the real estate agency's parking lot at 2929 Central Street in Evanston, across the street from Hartigan’s Ice Cream Shoppe. ESCCA, an all-volunteer organization, each year provides a full wardrobe of clothing and shoes to 500-600 Evanston/Skokie District 65 K-8 school children in need.

Eat Pancakes to Benefit Haven PTA 10/13

The official kickoff to the fall-winter eating season begins this Saturday, October 13, with the 17th Annual Pancake Breakfast from 8-11 AM in the cafeteria at Haven Middle School (Lincoln and Prairie) to benefit the school's PTA. A $7 ticket buys you all the pancakes and sausages you can eat; beverages are also available. Kids 3 years old and younger get to eat free!
 
As if that weren't enough, there will be musical performances by the Haven Band and Orchestra, and a book fair.

Our neighborhood extends to the Evanston city limits on the north and west, the lakefront on the east, and on the south, Golf-Emerson Rd. and McCormick Blvd. (west of Green Bay) and Noyes (east of Green Bay). Residents of the Neighborhood may join CSNA as voting members; supporters who live outside the Neighborhood boundaries may join CSNA as Associate members.

Meeting with ComEd, Thursday, Oct. 11

I will be hosting a meeting with Jeff Batara, External Affairs Manager - Corporate Affairs from ComEd and David Stoneback, City of Evanston, Utilities Director, on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 7:30 PM at the Presbyterian Homes, James Room located on the second floor of the Kimble Fitness Center, 3200 Grant Street. This meeting will focus on the recent ComEd issues in Circuit C754 in the Cowper/Hastings area.
