Central Street Businesses' "Retail Therapy" Thurs. 4/22

The Central Street Business Association sponsors its 10th "Retail Therapy" late night shopping event this Thursday, April 22, from 6-9pm in the 1900 to 2100 block of Central Street. The association, which has been running a "Shop Small Stores" campaign, advertises the popular evening as featuring special sales, refreshments, in-store entertainment and a springtime bounty of surprises to celebrate the arrival of a new season.

Shred Documents at First Bank Sat. Apr. 24

First Bank & Trust will offer a free document shredding service to residents at its Central Street branch, 2925 Central, this Saturday, April 24, between 11 am and 1 pm. Customers and non-customers alike may bring up to 25 pounds of paper for secure shredding.

Evanston Public Library Friends: Read-a-Thon Parties

Evanston Public Library Friends will celebrate National Library Week and the end of the Read-a-Thon with parties at the main library and both branches on Saturday, April 17th from 10am to 12pm.  Join the fun with face painting, balloons, sidewalk chalk, lemonade, and fun for the whole family! 
 
Bring in your Read-a-Thon money and collect your prizes, or stop by and take advantage of the last day to join Evanston Public Library Friends for Free. After April 17th, cost per family will be $25. 

New Trees for Central Street

Our Superintendent of Parks and Forestry, Paul D'Agostino, reports the following about the ash trees that were recently removed from the Central Street parkway in the business district:

Recent burglaries in 6th Ward

The Evanston Police have reported that two home burglaries occurred on March 20, roughly between 6 and 10 PM. The homes are located not far from each other in the 2600 block of Payne and 2300 block of Ridgeway. Burglar(s) gained entry to one residence by removing a window screen.

Chickens in Evanston? Local Food Fest at UIC

Looking for something a little different this weekend? FamilyFarmed Expo, the midwest's largest event devoted to local, organic, and sustainable food, is ongoing this weekend at  University of Illinois - Chicago. Part trade show and part public fair, tonight's calendar features the popular Localicious party ($75). Saturday, March 13's workshop schedule includes presentations from 8 AM to 6 PM on numerous topics, from organic farming, to beekeeping, to backyard chickens and urban farming. There are also celebrity cooking workshops throughout the day, including Rick Bayless in the morning. The 20,000-sf exhibit hall includes a kid's corner with stories and other activities. Saturday admission is $15. Kids under 12 are free with an adult.
