Developer to build on CTA site at Chancellor and Bryant

Since I have seen nothing on this topic on the CSNA site, or other news sites, I wanted to bring everyone up to date on the status of the CTA site.  It was sold at bid recently to a developer, Greg Van Schaack, who plans to construct two attached townhomes.  The CTA property is located at Bryant and Chancellor (1210 Chancellor) behind Evanston Terraces (where I live). Recently neighbors received notice of a request for a minor variance to build above the 38 foot zoning height (to 45 feet).

19 SFHs proposed for Kendall College site

At the Site Plan and Appearance Review Committee [SPAARC] meeting on February 24, 2010, which will begin at 2:30 pm in Rm. 2404 of the Morton Civic Center, Granite Investment Properties, represented by Bob Kukor and Bob Burk, will present a proposal for the subdivision of the former Kendall College site (the block bounded by Sherman, Orrington, Colfax and Lincoln) into 19 lots intended for single-family residential use. The proposal, item No. 3, 10ZONA-0013 on the SPAARC calendar, is technically for "2408 Orrington" and is scheduled for 2:50 p.m.

SPAARC to hear Pres. Homes, Com Ed Prairie Ave. plans

In addition to the Kendall College site proposal (see story above), the Site Plan and Appearance Review Committee will hear on Feb. 24 about two other projects of interest to the Central Street community.

Item 4 on the agenda is the proposal of Presbyterian Homes to replace 51 1950s-era independent living cottages with 54 new cottages, and to construct a new apartment building consisting of 32 2-bedroom units.

The next item on the agenda is Com Ed's plans for installing new overhead equipment on the 2600 and 2700 blocks of Prairie Avenue, and to replace three existing 35' poles with taller poles. The pole at 2723 Prairie is proposed to be moved from the alley to the parkway.

These items are scheduled for 3:10 and 3:40, respectively, at Rm. 2404 in the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center.

McDaniel Place Takes Shape

This is an update to a piece we ran about a year ago on the McDaniel Place development on McDaniel south of Central St., across from Ackerman Park. Unlike the many stalled or unstarted projects around town, this modest-sized development seems to be proceeding steadily. As can be seen from the picture above, the exterior is built out and the brick facing complete. Probably not too long before the units are ready to show.

1890 Maple Proposal

For those interested in the request for funding of the 1890 Maple project...here is the packet of information (Addendum) that is going to the council members for the meeting Monday, April 27.  This is item O5 on the Council Consent Agenda 'For Action'.

CITY GUARANTEES GREEN SPACE

In a stunningly clever move on Tuesday the aldermen of the Planning and Development Committee guaranteed more green space along Central Street. Being the master manipulators that they are, they also got a developer to pay for and maintain the green space. Brilliant!

1700-1722 Central Street extension only if modified to be consistent with Central Street Plan

The minutes of the Council meeting at which the last extension was approved confirm my recollection of reports in the newspapers: that Liz Tisdahl said that she would vote for that last extension but not for a further one in the future, at least not without a new proposal.  She should be held to this, which I as well as others relied upon in voting for her as mayor.

Central Street Approved Planned Development

The Planning and Development Committee will consider a 14.5 month extension of the time to apply for a  building permit for the planned development project at the site of the old Evanston I & II theaters at 1700-1722 Central St.  The extension item is on the agendas for consideration (vote) on both the Planning & Development Committee and the City Council meeting on the same night
