MarkTendam's blogIncrease in car burglaries in our areaIn the past few weeks there have been several car burglaries in the 6th Ward. Most of the cars were unlocked and contained items of value -- a camera and photo equipment, wireless headset and designer sunglasses. According to Officer Loyce Spells of the Evanston Police Department if you remove all items of value and lock your vehicles during the early evening/overnight hours, you have a low probability of being burglarized. Nov. 9 Citgo/Chase site hearing postponedThe Plan Commission of the City of Evanston will NOT hear requests from Edgemark (Chase) for text and map amendments to the currently closed Citgo property at Gross Point and Crawford on November 9, 2011. The requests will, most likely, be heard at the December 14, 2011 meeting of the Plan Commission. If so, the City will notify neighbors and post details of the Plan Commission's agenda at the site. ComEd reliability issues meeting Sept. 20This meeting has been set to discuss the power reliability issues to the residents in the area bordered by Central Park, Colfax, Lincolnwood and Payne as well as the residents in the Hillside area bordered by Thayer, Crawford, Central and Princeton. Thanks. --Mark 6th Ward meeting, Wed., March 2 City's new emergency alert systemThere is a Snow Route Parking Ban beginning tonight at 11 pm through tomorrow at 6am on main thoroughfares designated with permanent red, white and blue signs. The Snow Parking Ban will also be in effect on Wednesday February 2nd and Thursday February 3rd. Emergency sirens will sound at 8:15 p.m. tonight. New emergency notification systemThe City of Evanston will begin using a new emergency notification system on February 1, 2011. This service allows you to sign up to get emergency alerts on your cell phone, work phone, text message, e-mail, home phone, and more. Snow parking regulationsResidents are reminded that they should not leave their vehicles parked on the street during winter storms, as it makes snowplowing more difficult and leaves large amounts of snow on the roadway. Preparation TipsThe city offers the following tips to stay safe during inclement winter weather: Snow removalHomeowners and building landlords are responsible for clearing sidewalks adjacent to their property within 24 hours after a 4″snowfall. Landlords are also responsible for clearing parking lots within 24 hours after a 4″ snowfall. It's not too late to help needy Evanston familiesDonations to the annual holiday toy and food drive sponsored by Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and local community organizations will continue to be accepted through Monday, December 20. There are now additional locations to drop off new, unwrapped toys and/or non-perishable food items. Please help make the holiday season joyful for as many families as possible!
