Central Street Commmunity Shopping Day Nov. 12

Central Street Community Day
Come and Enjoy This Saturday, November 12 on Central Street. Call your Friends and support our local business owners and charities.

Central Street Business Association Presents:

Central Street Community Day

Do you really need an excuse to go shopping on Central Street? If so, here are just a few :)
 ·       Need to get a jump on your holiday shopping?
·        Could you use a great new hair style?
·        Is it time for your yearly eye exam and new glasses or contacts?
·        Need to get your car winterized before the snow flies?
·        Does your pooch deserve a little something special?
·        Would you like a new wireless computer network or stereo system?
·        How about replacing those old rugs or carpeting before the holidays?

Here is your chance to take care of one or all of the above and even stop for a cup of coffee and lunch in the process.   Community Day on Central Street is Saturday, November 12th.  A portion of the proceeds from purchases made at participating businesses will be given to 12 participating LOCAL charities/non for profit organizations:
  • Arts of Life – North Shore
  • C.A.R.E. for the Evanston Shelter
  • Center for Independent Futures – Evanston
  • Dreams Delivered - Woman's Club of Evanston
  • Evanston Community TV
  • Evanston Connections for the Homeless
  • Evanston Dance Ensemble
  • Evanston Environmental Association
  • Evanston Public Library Friends
  • Haven Middle School PRA
  • Kingsley Elementary School PT
  • Mitchell Museum of the American Indian

How does it work?  It is as easy as 1-2-3.
1.  Print out the flier below (also available from participating businesses and charities)
2. Bring the flyer with you when you shop on Central Street on November 12th at participating business.
3. Hand it to the cashier when you make your purchase, making sure to select which charity you want to benefit. A percentage of your purchase will be donated to that organization by that Central Street business.
Tell your family and friends! It’s a win-win proposition all the way around!  There is a wide variety of stores and business to choose from, and a great list of beneficiary organizations.  Each flyer has “room” for purchases at 3 different businesses. If you need extras, just print more at home and/or ask the cashier for another flyer. Shopping has never been so charitable!  See you there!

MLK day Rally

Yesterdays rallies served many purposes in bridging alliances between wards to show that the Evansto Library System is a connection of people, places and ideas. People of all ages joined together in support of neighborhood libraries.
Libraries serve an muliple purpose in todays world. They are not just places that house books, they are or can be the heart of a neighborhood. They are places where people can go and no one asks them for anything.

History and Maintaining the Library System

The history of the Evanston Public Library System is important (EPL) The South Branch survived the Great Depression and both branches have survived tough economic times. In these times library use goes up.  Mary

This item is on the agenda for the next council meeting Monday 27th. What has the discussion on this been? If anyone knows could they summarize community sentiment on this.
