CANAL SHORES GOLF COURSE NAMED MEMBER OF AUDUBON COOPERATIVE SANCTUARY PROGRAM FOR GOLF!

While the golf season is off to a great start in Evanston, Canal Shores Golf Course is not just about golf.  Recognizing the golf course’s proximity to migratory birds’ flight path, and the opportunity to enhance valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats, Canal Shores has earned a Certificate for Environmental Planning as part of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf.  Congratulations and thank you to Canal Shores’ volunteers and staff for their sensitive stewardship of the property for the benefit of both birds and golfers.

Canal Shores will be developing a comprehensive Master Plan to guide thoughtfuland responsible land stewardship of the entire course that runs from Green Bay Road to the Baha'i Temple along the North Shore Channel. The plan will include ecological inventory and history, invasive species management, and outreach opportunties to connect the community with nature. Educating youth on ecology and environemtn and reconnecting them to nature is a major priority. The course hopes to inspire a future generation of land stewards.

In the last two years, Canal Shores has taken many positive steps to restore habitats, install native palnts and clear out invasive species.

The course expresses its appreciation to the many neighborhood volunteers who have assisted in this effort and the generous pro bono donations from local businesses.
