Weekend Chances to Help Our Public Lands

Saturday, Sept. 25 is Public Lands Day. Locally there are at least 2 ways to pitch in to help steward some of what belongs to all of us.
County Commissioner Larry Suffredin is inviting residents of all ages to help out at Harms Flatwoods in Skokie, at the SE corner of the area bounded by Golf, Harms, Old Orchard and Woods Roads. The event will be held rain or shine from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M on Saturday Sept. 25. Tools will be provided.

The Chicago Group of the Sierra Club, in partnership with the Alliance for the Great Lakes, will simultaneously hold its last-of-the-year, 25th Anniversary Montrose Beach Cleanup, from 9:00 am - 12:00 Noon.  Meet at the EAST end of Montrose Beach House (at Montrose Beach east of Montrose and Lake Shore Drive).  The beach has the only sand dune restoration in Chicago and you can take a nature tour of the dune and bird sanctuary. NO DOGS ALLOWED.
