Alderman Jean-Baptiste Appointed Judge

An order dated February 9, 2011 and posted on the website of the Illinois Supreme Court states that Evanston attorney Lionel Jean-Baptiste has been appointed by the Court to fill the vacancy of the late Judge Gerald Bender. The appointment will be effective March 4.  Jean-Baptiste, known for his work with the Haitian-American community and with his native country, currently serves as alderman for the 2d Ward of Evanston, where he has been an advocate on such issues as affordable housing.

Jean-Baptiste's vacancy on the Council will be filled by appointment by Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl. Jean-Baptiste's appointment will last through most of December, 2012, and he will have to stand for election after that.

On behalf of the Central Street Neighbors Association, let me congratulate Ald. Jean-Baptiste on his appointment and wish him success in his new endeavor.
