Evanston Borders to Close

Fifteen Chicago-area Borders stores, including the one on Maple Avenue in downtown Evanston, are to close as the company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, it was reported today in Crain's.

The Wilmette store at Edens Plaza is not on the list of those slated to close.

Borders apparently changed its mind. Dumb decision. The Wilmette store -- already often faster to get to for much of North Evanston -- would have picked up a lot of the traffic lost from the downtown Evanston store.
